Pulitzer Prize- John Kaplan

The Pulitzer Prize is a series of achievement awards that are either over online journalism, literature, newspaper, or musical composition. Ive decided to write about the winner of the 1992 Pulitzer Prize, John Kaplan. In his winning essay he wrote about many different twenty one year olds around the United States.

The first photo I wanted to choose was on a man names Phil. He was what they would say, "a teen idol but a mothers worst fear." Phil Anselmo was the lead singer of a band named Pantera. This photo was taken right before their first tour with his pet boa snake.

This next photo is of a women known has the name Tanya. Tanya had a very difficult life as a child. In fact she was a victim of child abuse in her younger age. In this photo she is on the runway of the Oscar de la Renta show. She is now one of New Yorks top models.

This is Beatriz. She has also had a hard life. Beatriz is an illegal immigrant who lives in San Diego. With children only at twenty one, she came to the United States to find them a better life.

This is a photo of Rodney Woodson. In this picture police are uncovering the gun he used in a Pittsburgh Hill District killing while he stands in shame. Before the Pulitzer Prize awards, this led the Robert F. Kennedy award.

This is Frank. There is not much of a story. Frank is a high school dropout student.

This is a photo of Malli. She is a senior at Harvard. In this picture she is dreaming about a career and a doctor. In this photo she is also maintains a long distance relationship with her boyfriend.

Again all of these photos are about twenty one year olds and how they live the way they do. It was very interesting for me to see all of the different twenty one year olds in America and who they were all so unalike. Kaplan is an amazing photographer and I really enjoy the way he takes his photos and the stories that go alone with them.
