Semester 2 FINAL

1. Story Telling -- Family

I went to the beach with my moms family a couple weeks ago more up the west coast and decided to take the opportunity to take photos of them! (I don't remember the name of the place we went)

This is a portrait of my Grandpa. He usually has the idea to take us cousins on this trip and so I thought it would be best to start this sequence off with a picture of the man himself. In a small town on the beach was where we spent most of the time. Getting ice-cream and sitting on the rocks while the cold wind was blowing in our face.

This is a photo of the comedian in the family, also the youngest cousin, Daisy. This was our first full day in the town so we were all quite excited to visit. During this picture, Daisy was hiding seaweed behind her back and when I brought down the camera and glared at the image, I all of a sudden felt the seaweed being slapped across my shoulder!

This is a picture of Coco (left), my Grandmother (middle), and Daisy (right) walking down the beach toward that black truck. As you can maybe tell there is a blue boat behind the truck filled with red lobster and crabs, fresh for the restaurants in the town.

Another picture of my Grandmother, Coco, and Daisy is being displayed above. My Grandmother loves taking photographs also. She makes a book for the four of us cousins and has pictures from every holiday that we have shared together in each individual book.

In this picture my other cousin Tabitha is ready to throw some more seaweed at Daisy unexpectedly! You can see the movement of the seaweed in her hand, ready to slap Daisy across her body.

And for my last picture, Coco (left), Daisy (middle left), my Grandmother (middle right), and my Grandpa (right) are all standing in the wet sand gazing out towards all of the boats and the mountains. We all know we are definitely going to come back in the summer!

2. Skill -- Long Exposure

One evening me, My sister, and her friends decided to have fun with glow sticks, and a low shutter speed! While Coco and her friends danced around with the glow sticks, I took the time to photos.

In this glow stick image we decided to use a lot less sticks to create more of a blurry image. I think it turned out quite well and way different than the first trial. I like both of the images how they are really different but also the same. It was fun to experiment!

The next morning I got Coco and one of her friends to sit and move around their bodies a lot. All though not too much so you could see the difference between the first position and the last position in one photo.

3. Story -- Where I Live

I live in the friendly area across from McCallum in Brentwood/Crestview.
There is a couple parks for children to play, a pool, an elementary school, a minimart, a pizza place, and many other things that make my neighborhood great!

The neighborhood is filled with long, curvy streets. The whole area put effort into making our neighborhood a welcome, friendly place for everyone!

As there are lots of winding roads, like most neighborhoods everyone usually has a main street. Ours is Woodrow. It goes right through the area and is also the street with most of the attractions.

Here is another part of Woodrow. A good way to getting around is to catch the local bus! The (5) bus stops right in front of my house so it's very easy for me and others to get around.

Read and Respond: What is Bokeh?

Bokeh

What is Bokeh?
Bokeh is is a very popular picture appearance when you un-focus (or blur) a picture so it makes a series of circles. Mainly used in when taking pictures of multiple lights.

Why do photographers love it so much?
Many people like it because of the aesthetic. Photographers also like to use it because they can experiment with lots of different types of lenses and see all the different effects they can do.

Five things photographers need to do in order to
maximize bokeh in their images:
      1. Choose a background lacking in specular highlights.
You don't want small highlights to sneak in the picture.
      2. F-stop matters somewhat less than is generally taught.
It helps with the blur in the background a lot and it a major key.
      3. Closeness to the subject matters a lot.
Being close to your subject helps blur the background into bokeh easier.
      4. Find your Bokeh source.
Christmas lights are the most popular and a great source of Bokeh.

architecture preview 2

CASA MILA ARCHITECTURE PREVIEW

1.) details

casa mila (la pedrera) has tons of details and design throughout the park. losts of smooth, mosaic, etc...

2. light

this is one of the more popular photo angles in the whole building. the light in this goes really well with all of the interesting shapes and features.

3. patterns

there are many different patterns is in casa mila. these are one of my favorite features in the whole park.

4. surrounding

the actually popular part of the building is the upper roof so there isn't much of a surrounding. the sky makes the whole thing stand out even more.

5. angles and shapes

it's good to experiment with different angles to see how you can get the best shot. i really like this angle because you can see the amazing rooftop and also the actual apartments.

ATPI Top Program Portfolio -- Sports

ATPI Top Program Portfolio -- Sports

I was also quite impressed with this portfolio. I think it’s good how you didn’t just incorporate mostly football pictures and lots of other different sports. I don’t really feel like there is a super recognizable flow but to be honest I kind of like that about it.  I don’t even know if I can tell the story behind it or involved in it but I like that a bit also. Or I just wasn’t looking properly. I love how there isn’t a single one of the same sports that have been right next to each other in the portfolio. Everything is spread out easily and in a suitable order. All of the pictures in the portfolio match and go well together also which is something very important to and photography portfolio.

If you just saw a sport photo without a caption, you would have no idea what was actually going on in the photo. You would just see it and say to yourself; “Oh that’s a cool photo.” But that’s not all it is. The caption explains everything. Who is in the photo, what is going on, where it is, when it was, etc… The thing that stays with me after I look at the portfolio is that there aren’t just pictures of football (especially) or baseball, but loads of other really interesting sports that deserve to be in an amazing portfolio like this. I don’t think anything is wrong with it. It’s perfect. I would have maybe tried to photograph even more different types of sports but that’s all.

ATPI Top Program Portfolio -- Photojournalism/Documentary

ATPI Top Program Portfolio -- Photojournalism/Documentary

I am actually really impressed with the portfolio and I think that the pictures choses were a great choice. The flow go’s well and the topic is really interesting. I really enjoy this also because I believe that women should be recognized more for appreciation and what we do. I’m not sure if it really tells a story but as I said earlier the theme and the idea is really outstanding and something everyone should be more appreciative of. Each image contributes to the image so well. Women saying what they believe, women standing for their right and there freedom, women showing off their problems and BEING PROUD AND HAPPY. They all work so well together and are pointing something out we all need to take into consideration.

The captions really help in this portfolio also. They are giving us a better understanding and they actually help to see what is really going on behind the image. You don’t really realize how the picture is in reality until you read a good caption matching to the picture itself. The pictures also are not just deep or there isn’t an amazing story behind all of this. Some of these pictures are in fact standing up and helping themselves or helping other women and I really like that about this.

The thing that sticks with me also is that each and every picture within the portfolio has a female as the focal point. Its great because after you take a look at all of the photos you begin to realize what the whole this is trying to show you. I honestly don’t think I would have done anything different. I love the topic, I love photographs, the order of the photos is great and I love how the best story/topic was saved for the end. It really makes the whole feel of the portfolio great.

view and respond: a present indeed

1. How does the story unfold?
well the boy just seems like an ordinary boy with nothing wrong... until he stands and it shows that he actually has a similarity to the poor pup.

2. Are there particular moments  that stand out to you as particularly powerful or effective?
i feel like this could really stand out to anyone. if someone has something different about them, people can be rude or you just don't fit in or feel welcome, but when you have that strange similarity with someone or something you feel as a whole again.

3.  What image elicits the most emotion from you?
whenever the boy sees the dog has one missing leg, he seems annoyed. but as the dog kept playing he learned to love it and saw the struggles the dog was having that he could relate to.

4. What theme or message (s) do you take from the movie?
if you don't fit in to something, maybe find someone who can fill that empty space and make you feel better about yourself. don't judge a book by its cover.

5. How do the filmmakers convey that message visually and/or verbally?
the filmmakers make it seem like the boy is just ordinary and as the pup struggles it makes him happy because he has similar problems and he knows what the little pup goes through. it's also probably just so cute

mirrorless camera vs. DSLR

I think we should stick to the DSLR cameras because no one has really has good experience with a mirrorless camera. it would be to complicated for the students and you as the teacher to have to re-teach a whole new technique.
